While exploring St. Martin / St Maarten island one of the key points of interest for visitors is the border monument. Border crossing between St. Maarten and St. Martin is indicated with this landmark. The monument was erected in 1948; you would notice the welcome sign when traveling from one side of the island to the other. There is over three hundred years of peaceful coexistence between the Dutch and the French.
The courthouse located in Philipsburg is the most prominent landmark on Front Street. This white wooded historic building was built in 1793. It is the one of the city symbols and a major tourist attraction. Fort Amsterdam is one the historic forts on the island. Built in 1631 on the peninsula between Little Bay and Great Bay. The remains of Fort Amsterdam can be access from the Little Bay Beach Resort.
